A Neighbor Who Leads. A Fighter Who Listens.

Jayne Williams is running for Kannapolis City Council not to build a political career, but to build a community where no one is left behind. Her story is one of grit, service, and unwavering commitment to working families.

Born and raised in Paterson, New Jersey, Jayne is a single mother of five who began her journey as a factory worker earning $5.05 an hour. When someone saw her potential and paid for her nursing education, she didn’t just take the opportunity; she honored it with 45 years of service, including over 34 years as a hospice nurse, caring for patients and families with compassion and dignity during their most vulnerable moments.

Jayne’s fighting spirit runs deep—it’s in her blood. She is the daughter of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, the legendary boxer and civil rights advocate whose wrongful conviction and relentless pursuit of justice inspired a generation. From her father, Jayne inherited not only resilience but a fierce commitment to standing up for what’s right, even when the odds are stacked against her.

When the cost of living in Paterson became unbearable, Jayne moved to Kannapolis, her mother’s hometown, where her children graduated from A.L. Brown High School. She’s been deeply rooted in the community ever since, volunteering with Meals on Wheels, picking up trash, and showing up for neighbors in need.

Jayne’s fight for housing justice began long before campaign season. In 2023, she helped lead the Evict Less, House More campaign, which successfully pushed Cabarrus County to fund eviction prevention programs for families at risk. Her advocacy continued in 2024, when she joined the launch of One New Fund, Many New Homes, a campaign demanding that Cabarrus County dedicate 1% of its budget to housing solutions for working families.

Her run for Kannapolis City Council in 2023 earned over a thousand votes in a competitive six-way race. That campaign was not just about winning; it was about making sure working-class voices were heard. And she hasn’t stopped since.

Jayne’s platform is built on:

  • Housing within reach for working families, seniors, and those on fixed incomes.

  • Programs that uplift youth and seniors.

  • Healthy, active living, from walkable neighborhoods to community wellness initiatives.

  • Expanded healthcare access, advocating for more options across Kannapolis, so residents can receive care close to home.

  • Governance by the people, where decisions reflect the needs of everyday residents, not special interests.

Her campaign slogan, “No One Left Behind,” isn’t just a tagline; it’s a promise. Jayne Williams is the candidate who knows what it’s like to struggle, and what it means to serve. She’s not backed by insiders or big donors. She’s backed by neighbors, volunteers, and those who believe in a Kannapolis where resilience meets opportunity and no one is left behind.
